Who is NOT a Good Candidate for IV Ketamine Treatment

Ketamine is a powerful antidepressant that can provide rapid relief for 70-80% of patients. However, some conditions may make a patient a poor candidate for ketamine treatment.

Criteria for ketamine treatment

Most patients with treatment-resistant depression, severe anxiety, suicidal ideation, OCD, PTSD, and some other conditions are great candidates for IV ketamine treatment.

Patients who are not good candidates for treatment include those with:

  • Uncontrolled, untreated high blood pressure
  • Untreated active coronary artery disease
  • Untreated severe glaucoma and intraocular pressure
  • High intracranial pressure, including a tumor or space-occupying lesion in the head

Patients should discuss their medical history with a provider before undergoing treatment.
