Less-Common Treatments for Mental Health

What if you’re looking for an interventional mental health treatment that seems like something we might offer, but isn’t listed as one of our provided treatments? We may still be able to provide it for you.

The treatments we offer

We came to the interventional treatments we regularly offer (including ketamine infusions, stellate ganglion blocks, accelerated TMS, and nitrous oxide) based on compelling evidence and clinical results for the benefit of our patients, and after discussion with our patients and referring providers as to what would be the most helpful, meaningful, and fast-acting treatments to provide.

This does not mean that these treatments are the only options available to patients at Wells Medicine.

We do provide other treatments and services:

  • We provide some other miscellaneous treatments occasionally — whether explicitly discussed on this website or not — when requested.
  • We add new treatments and services to our offerings from time to time.
  • We often work with our patients to recommend other providers, and help with referrals to other providers.

When we provide other Treatments

Wells Medicine has been fortunate to be part of a very research-focused community of providers and researchers in Houston. This has included collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine and UT Health Houston and other highly active research-focused institutions. These relationships have been an important part of our work on new and innovative treatments.

We have psychiatrists, neurologists, and other physicians and providers ask us if we’ll provide a specific treatment for a patient occasionally.

We have patients who ask us if we’ll provide an additional treatment, not otherwise listed. In these cases the patient is often working with recommendations from one of their providers, and are searching for a credentialed provider they trust.

Examples Of Other Treatments We’ve Provided

Here are a few examples of other treatments we’ve provided:

  • At the request of a local neurologist, we’ve provided propofol infusions for migraine patients – which has evidence-based, published research showing it can be helpful.
  • We have provided scopolamine infusions at the behest of a psychiatrist for a patient who had tried several interventional treatments, including all those offered by our clinic, and found no relief. Scopolamine was fairly challenging to get a hold of, but we were happy to work on acquiring it to provide for the patient.
  • We have been asked to provide sevoflurane infusions for patients.
  • We have provided sphenopalatine ganglion blocks for migraine patients.

Next Steps…

We work to provide useful medicine, focused mostly on mental health and primarily on interventional treatments, but we take a ‘whatever it takes’ approach. Our practice extends to broadly supporting our patients toward meaningful improvements. When we can provide additional treatments, or refer a patient to a specialist who might be a good fit for additional treatments, we’re very glad to do so.

We are very interested in providing evidence-based treatments, including new and innovative and advanced treatments, for those who might benefit.

If you are a patient, or prospective patient, and there is something you come across in your research that we might help you with, we are very happy to discuss this with you.

If you are a physician and you would like to find a clinical partner who is willing to go the extra mile to figure out how to safely and comfortably administer a treatment that you’re interested in providing for your patient, we are very happy to discuss this with you.

We look forward to continuing to offer the most helpful treatments we can. Please contact us if we might be able to help.
